It seems I did, in fact, get a final, off-schedule payment from my job; the deposit, basically half a month's pay, arrived on January 2. I don't think I noticed it because I had wired $2000 to my US bank account, so the payment and the wire transfer basically cancelled each other out, leaving me with about the same balance. Anyway, that was my final salary payment, and I have no dispute with the company about that. There's still a chance, though—at least according to my boss—that we might get a six-month extension to finish our book series. We'll see. If we do get called in to finish the books, we'll have to work from home because the other big news is that my boss and I must definitely clear our stuff out of our now-former office by the end of lunar-new-year vacation. So the boss and I are coming in on Saturday to box our shit up and get the hell out. Neither of us wants to be where we're not welcome.
In other news, Ilyang Logis texted that my package containing my passport, payment receipt, renewal form, and photo was successfully delivered to the US Embassy. So now, it's just a matter of waiting a few weeks to get a passport courier'ed back to me, assuming I made no mistakes with my documents. I don't think I can then renew my F4 visa right away: the maximum time is four months early to renew that, i.e., in June. (You'll recall I did renew my F4 last year, but the validity period can't extend beyond my passport's expiration date. Now that I'll have a passport that's good for ten years, I can re-renew my F4 visa for three years.)
That's it for the latest housekeeping-news update.
I'm not sure what the F4 visa is (I was always on SOFA or tourist status), but I assume there are no employment or other income requirements?
ReplyDeleteF4 = 동포/dongpo visa, i.e., person of Korean heritage or lineage. No employment requirement and limited voting ability (local but not national elections).
DeleteI think it's basically an F5, but for "the diaspora."
