do we really need more territory to manage?

While I've long wanted to visit Greenland, with its 55,000-some people, I'm uncomfortable with the thought of appropriating it as an American territory. People already unjustly accuse the US of being an empire, which only demonstrates their ignorance of what an empire is. But shenanigans like this, with Trump making noises about buying Greenland (with what money?), only serve to reinforce the idea that the US is a reincarnation of Rome.

UPDATE: the pushback against people like me is apparently that this is just a case of Trump trolling—a distraction and not a serious bid. That's plausible. I just hope he's not really serious—about that or about Canada as a "51st state," or renaming the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America." All of these moves strike me as silly.

UPDATE 2: let's not forget retaking the Panama Canal.
