The documentary "The Coddling of the American Mind" (which the above video introduces) is based on the book The Coddling of the American Mind, by Dr. Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff. Haidt, a psychologist, has done a lot of work on questions of moral foundations, belief, conviction, group formation, and self-righteousness. Lukianoff is famous for his work with FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, formerly the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education before widening its scope), an organization that mostly works to promote free speech on American college campuses, but also in the greater American society. I admire both of these men; I have Haidt's book The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion. Lukianoff is a lawyer and the current president of FIRE, which was founded in 1999 by Alan Charles Kors (historian and professor) and Harvey Silverglate (sic: -glate, not -gate; he's a lawyer).
