the more I think about it...

The more I think about it, the more I think it's a bad idea to hit the States (and maybe France) this year. Not because I lack the finances (at least not directly because of that); as I've been boasting for the past few months, I definitely have the money to not only make these trips, but also to fly first class if I wanted to (but I won't*), several times over.

But since I won't be back to earning money until later this year (assuming all goes well), I don't know how I feel about splurging and not immediately recovering. Plus, at some point soon, I'm going to be rental-contracting out with my building, i.e., paying my own rent after years of sucking off the teat of my company (which has paid the rent all this time, leaving me to pay only "admin fees"); the initial outlay is a cool W10 million, plus a real-estate fee of around W300,000, plus monthly rent of W650K to W700K (unless it's gone up since 2023). and if it's like the US, the monthly rent has the potential to go up every year. Starting at W700,000 for a studio in an old building is already up there. So do I really want to be zipping across the Pacific and Atlantic right now? Not sure.

I'm still thinking this over. Part of what this blog is about is not just ranting and venting, but also thinking out loud. Another pressing matter, this year, is getting all my travel/citizenry documents renewed: passport, driver's license, and F4 visa. Doing that while also trying to go abroad seems as though it may be a little too much. More and more, I'm think that traveling overseas this year might be a bad idea.

*Paying top dollar for a luxury that lasts only a few hours has long struck me as absurd, especially given how minimally I live during my long walks. The same goes for shacking up in super-expensive, extravagant hotels. In Korea at least, a decent motel is fine, and I've been okay with being in dirtier conditions (pube yeogwan, anyone?) as long as I have a place to wash, to shit, to sleep, and to stay out of the weather. I really don't need much, but I admit the inclusion of WiFi, in most Korean lodging, has pampered me.
