a tribute to my uncle

My Uncle Ed, who is being buried today (Tuesday, Texas time), was, among other things, a fine pilot. The following humble effort is for him.

SIMPLE ODE TO A FLIER

no cloud
sun lance
scream loud
wind dance

sleek dart
tarmac
now, heart!
yank back!

with steely smile, we master the machine
the sun our king, the atmosphere our queen

what limits, what importance gravity?
why land when we have all eternity?
