I take it back

With all the reports of rape and other types of violence coming regularly from the various Occupy movements, I can no longer say that there exists an equivalence between those movements and the various Tea Party rallies. While not a Tea Partier myself, I can't ignore items such as what Malcolm recently linked to, or the mayhem in DC.

UPDATE: "Safety tents" or "rape shelters"? No matter how the existence of these tents is spun, I have to wonder: why the need for either of these things? Some conservatives are actually cheering the Occupy Wall Street movement because it's going to be a millstone around Obama's neck as more and more filth, violence, and sexual assaults come to light.

Hmm...someone with a particular slant writes something that verifies that slant. This is why I pay no attention to political bloggers of either stripe.

Read the comments--guys on both sides are preaching to an increasingly militant choir.

Oh, I completely agree about the comment sections for such blogs, no matter their leanings. You have to hold your nose.

I'll go further and say I don't see myself ever joining any mass movement. I think those are for sheep.

Kevin, you need to run for President!

John,

I'd be a terrible president. My moderate position on most issues would make me the object of hatred on both sides of the aisle. Plus, there's the fact that I don't know nearly enough about history, economics, or foreign policy to govern wisely (if "govern" is the right word for what a president does).

Steve,

I meant to add that I tend to do the opposite: I often read both sides in the hope that the truth, such as it is, can be found somewhere in between. I also want to avoid committing the genetic fallacy by dismissing a claim simply because it comes from a biased source.

At this point, I'd say that the Tea Party rallies and the OWS sit-ins/riots (and they're increasingly becoming riots) can't be compared. There's an element on the Left that has been declaiming against lack of civility from the Right, but that voice is being drowned out, I think, by the OWS crowd's more militant-revolutionary tone.

Someone linked to the best critique of the OWS movement I've seen: this old "South Park" episode from back when Chef was still alive.

There has now been at least one death as well, but it did happen across the border and shouldn't be Obama's burden.
