what I mean by "failure of imagination"

In the comment I appended to the previous post, I noted my own failure of imagination. Had I thought of the following scenario yesterday afternoon, I'd have spared myself hours of toil.



I already wrote about this scenario in the above-linked comment, but I thought I'd provide a visual representation for the curious.

So all we can infer from this is that angle 10 and angle 16 being equal is an insufficient assumption in and of itself to prove or disprove c and d are parallel.

Exactly. And since no other information is given regarding any of the other lines and angles, we can prove nothing. I'm kicking myself. Repeatedly. In the head. Finally found a use for all that long-ago taekwondo.
