As to whether the liberal student was somehow wowed or bowled over or left speechless or persuaded by Amala's facts and logic, I'd give that a big no. Part of the problem is a human one: we commit emotionally to our positions, with reason being employed in the service of post hoc justifications. Like it or not, feelings come first, and logic is rarely persuasive, pace Aristotle. Sure, logic works with reasonable people, but that's not most of us.
