This might be my first Joro-spider pic of 2023. These fierce ladies usually start to appear with the advent of autumn. Sorry for the blur:

toe socks, deployed |
The 14K walk out to Jamshil Bridge went well. The socks worked fine, but there was this bizarre sensation of the socks' tugging on the tips of my toes. It wasn't enough to be bothersome, but it was noticeable, and I wonder why/how it happened. I came away from the walk with no under-the-toenail bruises or anything, so that's a plus. Are the socks worth what I paid for them? I'm still working that out, but I'm leaning toward no for the moment: I noticed no real difference in comfort or performance. Then again, the path to and from Jamshil Bridge is pretty much flat, so the socks didn't get much of a test. I'll try wearing them on a walk to Hanam City. There's a hill along the way.
Are the spiders really "fierce" in other than appearance? I don't like spiders (and snakes), even more so if they are aggressive.
ReplyDeleteThe socks look comfortable, but I know I wouldn't have the patience to put them on every time I hiked. I don't have toe compression issues as a motivator, though.
They're mostly just fierce in coloration. I've thought it might be nifty for Buddhist monks to have special ceremonial robes that reflect the color schemes of some of Korea's prominent plants, animals, etc.—e.g., the Korean magpie, the Joro spider, the rose of Sharon, etc.
