the "Obama is gay" rumor

I thought Barack Obama ended up being a pretty shitty president, and I'm willing to grant, vaguely, that there may be some suspicious details about his past floating around out there. But I have to confess that I roll my eyes when I hear all the wild conspiracy theories that have dogged the man for years: he is not an American citizen; he's a closet Muslim in reality; his wife is a man... and now: it turns out Obama is gay. This newest rumor came to my attention when people unearthed some of Obama's old correspondence, including a letter in which he apparently wrote, "I make love to men daily, but in the imagination." Now, it seems, we've got "former bathhouse lover" Larry Sinclair on Tucker Carlson's show, with Sinclair stating that he "blew [Obama] twice."

Let's run with this for a sec and assume Obama really is gay. So what? Whether he was experimenting sexually back in the day or he's still a flamer, who cares? That's his own personal business, and I assume the air is clear between him and Michelle. My stance on this is libertarian: do what you want in your private life as long as you're not hurting anyone. I haven't explored the Sinclair thing very deeply, but I'd say there's a distinct possibility that Sinclair is an attention whore looking for his moment in the spotlight, even if it means lying or exaggerating and being caught out for it. Is he an attention whore? I don't know. All I'm saying is that it's a possibility, and I'm basing that on having seen scandals like this before (Jussie Smollett, anyone?). Some people are just drawn to fame at any cost.

So if we're going to criticize Obama, let's stick to his insane drone-strike policies, his exploitative and onerous Obamacare, his role in tearing down race relations, his plumping-up of government jobs at the expense of the private sector, etc. There's enough material there for mountains of trenchant criticism. We don't need to bring in wild-eyed fantasies about his origins, his religious beliefs, and his sexuality.
