Someone may have put this in the comments sometime ago, and I forgot it, but today I discovered, or rediscovered, that a Joro spider is called a 무당거미/mudang-geomi in Korean, i.e., a shaman spider. How cool is that? The spider's color patterns are weirdly twisty and hypnotic, evoking magic or some spiritually esoteric form of writing, so the Korean name seems apropos. I like it.
