poor presentation, good food

I couldn't stand watching this dude because his presentation style is simply awful, but he's a solid cook doing plausibly realistic Amurrican-style Chinese food, so give this video a whirl and just try to ignore how annoyingly douche-y the guy himself is:

This guy is one half of a pair of brothers, surnamed Green, who do cooking vids on YouTube. The other brother is more watchable, although you may end up screaming at him for what he does to a "real" Philly cheesesteak. Go read the comments section below the vid if you're too impatient to watch the vid to learn what his transgression was.

I stopped watching when he called me a "muncharoonski." Nobody calls me a muncharoonski and gets away with it.

Also, I'm going to be controversial here and say that the traditional Philly cheesesteaks suck. Yep, I said it. I've eaten at both Jim's and Pat's, and I remember having a decent sandwich at Pat's once upon a time, but the last time I went to Jim's I was sorely disappointed. It wasn't bad, but it honestly wasn't all that great, either.

It could be the expectations. As they said in the video, cheesesteaks are not pretentious, they are just simple comfort food. But the cold, hard truth is that the big name sandwiches--while they may be "real" and "traditional"--are not actually that great as sandwiches. They are the lowest common denominator, and if that is what you are after, great. But if you want a good sandwich, go someplace like Hershel's Deli (there is one in Reading Terminal Market) and get some of their amazing pastrami or roast beef. Now that is a sandwich to get excited about.

Anyway, the other brother's sandwich looked pretty tasty, and I was on board right up until he put ketchup on the sandwich. Dude.

Maybe Max's Steaks (featured in the movie "Creed") could redeem the sandwich's reputation...

Hmm. I will have to give Max's a try next time I'm in Philly. I'm all about the second chances.
