As I said, the French collectively have a reflexive tendency to lean socialist. Marine Le Pen might be trying to bring a certain level of populism to the debate, but even she has her own socialist tendencies, which is what makes it unsafe to make equivalencies between the American left/right and the French left/right. Anyway, while the French might be flirting with a greater level of populism than usual, I fully expect them to snap back to more macronisme.
