He's a few years too late, but The Critical Drinker, an angry Scot on YouTube who reviews movies, finally takes on Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," which I reviewed long ago here. The Drinker castigates, as I did, the nonsensical notion of a five-month countdown timer. You can't drive up the tension in an action movie if your countdown starts at five months and not five hours. Eh, a six month timer gave Bruce enough time to recover in the Pit and return to Gotham. I don't buy most of the Drinker's criticisms, even though "Rises" is the "Godfather 3" or "Return Of The Jedi" of the Nolan Bat Trilogy.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about "Rises" that makes you rank it so low? I guess what I'm really asking is: how are your criticisms of the movie (you obviously have them) different from the Drinker's? What keeps "Rises" from being the #1 film in Nolan's trilogy? Color me curious.
