ululate!

Actress Anne Heche was apparently my age, but she's dead, now, at 53. Heche ran her car into a home in Los Angeles. Her car burst into flames, and first responders had difficulty pulling her out of the wreckage. She was finally pulled out, burned and flailing, and was later found to have been intoxicated. She went into a coma for a few days before finally succumbing to her injuries. Her organs were harvested at death—her final contribution to the world.

Heche was a superstar in the 90s, but she had contended with mental-health issues all her life. A bisexual (or is that term now archaic?), she was married to Coleman Laffoon, a camera operator; she also famously went out with comedienne/host Ellen Degeneres for a time. Heche leaves behind two kids.

I remember her best for her quirky turn in the TV comedy "Ally McBeal" where, true to form, she played Melanie West, a mentally ill person. That show had Heche starring opposite Calista Flockhart, now the wife of Harrison Ford. Heche starred with Ford in the comedy "Six Days, Seven Nights." Heche also starred in the remake of "Psycho."
