one thing I noticed while rewatching "Ender's Game"

Harrison Ford, as Hyrum Graff, still looks as if he's sleepwalking through the movie "Ender's Game," which I rewatched two nights ago. But that's not the new thing I noticed this time around. The thing I noticed was that every time big, burly Sergeant Dap (Nonso Anozie) saluted Ender (Asa Butterfield), Ender never saluted back. This happens twice in the film, and I felt sorry for poor Sergeant Dap. I can't be the only one who sees Ender's lack of return respect as a breach of protocol.

A bit of research on the question of non-saluting turns up various answers, the most common of which is: in the US military, it is not necessary for a senior officer to salute, especially if that officer is, for some reason, unable to salute (e.g., when holding something heavy). A few people are of the opinion that not saluting back might be considered unbecoming conduct, but few sources say that a senior's return salute to a junior is an absolute necessity.

So maybe Ender's off the hook.
