In grad school, I knew a chick who couldn't pronounce the word "what" to save her life. I think she hailed from New York, but I'm not sure I'd call her pronunciation quirk part of a New Yawk accent. Whenever this lady said "what," she twisted the vowel, and it always came out sounding like, "Whuheet?" (whuh-eet, not whuh-heet) I've heard other people do this as well. What dialect is that?
With all that in mind, listen to the girl in this video every time she says "us." Her first couple of "us"es sound normal, but keep listening:
