jury-rigged belt

I suppose I should explain. My faithful cargo-weave belt, seen below, took over belt duty when my ancient leather belt became too old and ratty. I had no idea that leather could age to the point where crumbs of cowskin could fall off, creating "belt dandruff," but as it turns out, for leather belts, belt dandruff is real. So I knew the time had come to throw the old, faithful belt away, and I turned to this guy. Now, a cargo weave is super-tough: if several Kevins had to hang onto this belt to avoid falling off a cliff, this belt could easily take the strain. But the belt has a weak point, and that's where the leather component holding the buckle in place is bound to the cargo-weave part by a snap. Well, that snap finally came undone today, so I had to figure out a way to keep the belt temporarily together while I went on Coupang to order myself a new belt. Luckily, Coupang had a belt my size in stock, and I did manage to figure out a way to keep my current belt together.

Solution: run elastic bands through the aligned holes of the leather strap and the belt, and hold the elastic in place with something like a short rod. I didn't have a short rod; all I had was a sharp-pointed drywall screw, so I used that. The pointy end of the screw was poking everything, so as you see in the second photo below, I took a cloth wet wipe, folded it over to make a teeny pillow, and taped that into place. A second set of elastic bands got placed on the belt to provide a bit of reinforcement, and all of that proved to be enough to keep my pants up and get me to my apartment. Whew.

I'm no MacGyver when it comes to jury-rigging things, but hey, the setup—despite being stupid-looking—worked. My new belt arrives sometime tomorrow. It has no idea what sort of life it's about to lead. I feel almost sorry for it.
