one of my last lunches here

Somewhat interesting lunch today: a cream udong. Yes, those are chips of fried garlic in the bowl along with minced green onions, shredded cabbage, shredded cheese, and flakes of seaweed. The seaweed was a big false note in the dish: take that out, and it would have been close to perfect. The fishiness of the seaweed clashed with the cheese, and the result was not to my liking. I hate to call this a "bad" dish given how many good dishes I've had at Go Jjang, but this comes close. It's certainly at the bottom of the rankings. Take out the cheese or take out the seaweed: you can't have both. Otherwise, the texture of the dish was fine. Almost Alfredo-like. Despite being my least-favorite dish from here, the dish gives me ideas.

Despite my not liking the dish that much, I'm still giving you a food-porn closeup:

forgot to mention sesame seeds and something kimchi-ish that disappeared into the dish

I'm not sure when my last day will be, but on that day, I'll have to return to the kalguksu that drew me in. Gotta go out with a culinary bang.

  1. The Korean obsession with cream/cheese still boggles my mind. I feel like the younger generation is going to simultaneously drop dead of massive coronary failure in a couple of decades.
