Commenter John from Daejeon suggested that I look at the incredibly cheap ticket prices on offer at CheapTickets.com. A one-way ticket from Dulles International (IAD) to Incheon International (ICN), departing on August 20, is going for a cool $620, which is a hell of a lot better than most of the tickets I've seen, all of which range in price from $800 to $2000. (Orbitz, however, shows the same $620 IAD-ICN ticket.)
Now that I know CUD is having an orientation on June 21, I can't buy the 6/20 ticket, which projects my arrival at 2:45PM on the 21st. I'll miss the orientation if I depart on that date. To see what other cheap tickets were available, I began working my way backward through the calendar before I finally settled on an August 13 departure date. The ticket's price? $666.
Departure on the 13th. 666 dollars. At least I'll be spending twelve hours on a Boeing 747. Those "7"s ought to counteract any bad mojo... although the "4" in between the "7"s is a bad sign: "4" means "death" in East Asia.
