A good bit of YouTube is devoted to exposing the fakeness of other parts of YouTube. In the video below, two people who legitimately speak a few foreign languages talk about "fake polyglots," i.e., people who haven't deeply mastered the languages they purport to speak, but who use their limited language skills to make money.
People who don't speak much or any Korean might think I sound pretty good when I rattle off sentences during a basic conversation, but non-Koreans who are Korean-fluent can pick up pretty quickly that my Korean has limits, and that I have a long way to go before reaching true mastery. I often wander around with a cloud of impostor syndrome hanging over my head. And not just about my Korean ability, either.
