what wave is this?

Instead of my usual 600-ish visits per day, I've been riding a statistical wave of several thousand visits per day for a while now. Of course, now that I've mentioned this, that wave will come to an end. But so far:

May 31: 3616
June 1: 3518
June 2: 3983
June 3: 4183
June 4: 3086
June 5: 2814
June 6: 1176 (lowest since 5/31)
June 7: 4220
June 8: 2483
June 9: 3044
June 10: 3637

Nothing lasts, so this streak, too, will come to an end, and I'll be back to my pedestrian numbers. I normally aim for at least 20,000 visits per month as a "point of honor" that doesn't really mean anything, and while April was an under-20K month, and May saw me over the 20K line (a bit over 26.6K visits), I'm already over 32K for June, and we're not even halfway through the month. So at this point, even if visits slow to a trickle, I'll have "saved my honor," as the French say. Should I get greedy and hope for over 40K by the end of June? I mean, none of this really matters, and there's always a reversion to my mean, so I'm treating all of this as an aberrancy. Things might be different if my visits remained in the four-digit range for months on end; I might be convinced that I've truly experienced a leap in popularity, but I've blogged for long enough to know that's not the case. I'll likely be one of those "famous after death" celebrities from history, with people picking at my corpse for leathery, sun-dried, rotten nuggets of wisdom only after I'm long, long gone.

That's my dream! People will read my posts and say, "See, he wasn't totally worthless; he still serves as a bad example!" You could feature my blog in your comma usage class!
