Final toe update before I hit the doc tomorrow.
No bleeding through to the sock. (I removed it before I thought to take a pic.) |
Only a little bit of bleed-through with the bandage. |
The bandage's interior shows very little fluid. |
The wound is about the same as a couple days ago. |
In looking up how to speed up wound healing, I found a few options, all involving poultices. Antibacterial ointment is one possibility. Honey is another. So is a paste made with turmeric. Aloe vera, of course, gets a mention. There's also garlic and coconut oil. I had experimentally stopped using my wound cream, but I'm back to using it again since that seems most convenient. Whatever accelerates the process. The last time I visited the doc and showed him pics of the toe, he saw the pic where there was still a tiny bleed-through to the sock. So we've definitely progressed beyond that stage. Next up is no bleed-through to the outside of the bandage. After that: no bleed-through to the inside of the bandage. When we hit that point, it'll be a matter of experiencing no leakage at all for several days straight, at which time I can tentatively declare my toe healed. Please, O Cthulhu, let this happen in July.
It will be interesting to hear what the doctor says, but it is looking better and better to me.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered trying Manuka honey? I'd never heard of it, but I know a retired doctor in Barretto who swears by it. He recently had skin cancer surgery, and the wound wasn't healing properly until he started using the honey, which worked like a charm.
Yeah, I've heard of Manuka honey. Last I checked, they were selling big jars of it at Costco. Maybe I should mosey on over and get some.
