welcome to our world

Canadian wildfires are burning out of control—over 400 of them right now. Smoke is trailing down the US east coast, drastically affecting air quality. And my hometown of Alexandria, Virginia now knows what it's like to live in East Asia. Welcome to our world.

air quality right now, near my hometown... we've had numbers like this in Seoul

The DC-Metro area isn't nearly as bad as things are farther north. New York City looks positively scary right now. Best advice: stay indoors and crank up your air purifiers. Oh, you don't have an air purifier, you say? Well, get off your ass and buy one if you live in an apartment—two if you live in a house with more than one floor. Crank those puppies up and hunker down. Here's hoping this nonsense is gone in a few days.

East Asians have been masking up for years because of air-quality issues. Seoul is often in the yellow or red zone for various reasons ranging from local pollution to the infamous yellow dust from China. Masks help a little, but they can't screen out the microfine particles. Right now, Seoul is enjoying a 35 air quality, i.e., the green zone. We're doing great. The Maine-to-South-Carolina corridor, not so much.

Hang tight, everyone. You'll pull through.
