Doug in Exile re: Trump's run

An interestingly nuanced take on where Donald Trump stands right now, which notes, as I recently did, that Trump is something of a mixed bag:

Doug mentions Harmeet Dhillon, an RNC representative in California. I've heard a lot of good things about her, but I don't know many specifics other than that she's a lawyer by background, and she's fiercely anti-lockdown, anti-mask, anti-vote-by-mail, and a proud Sikh—a fact that some conservative Christians are trying to use against her.* She's Indian-born, so I guess she won't be running for president, but she might make a good veep someday. (In the thumbnail for the video above, that's not Harmeet Dhillon: it's Nikki Haley, South Carolina-born and the daughter of immigrant Indian Sikh parents.) Right now, Dhillon is in contention to become the next RNC chair; her competition for the spot is Ronna McDaniel, a Romney excoriated as a RINO by people who style themselves true conservatives. I think Doug mentions, above, that McDaniel was, in fact, a Trump pick, but the wide base of conservatives prefers Dhillon to McDaniel. Preferring the Sikh to the white chick... how racist!

__________

*My own experience with Sikhs in 2008, during my long walk in the Pacific Northwest, was mightily positive, and I came away with great respect for this minority. Even without knowing much about Dhillon, I'd say she's already all the more cool to me.

  1. I'm a fan of Nikki Haley and wouldn't mind seeing a DeSantis-Haley ticket in 2024.

  2. I've heard Haley say some things I liked, but she's apparently also said and done things that mark her as a RINO, right along with Ronna McDaniel. The Instapundit commentariat is pretty much entirely against Haley.

I think DeSantis and Kari Lake would be awesome. Or Trump and Lake, for that matter.
