So begins what was supposed to be a four-day Lunar New Year's weekend—Saturday through Tuesday off (the actual Lunar New Year's Day is Sunday). Instead, I'll be going into work on Monday to keep working on the material we're developing for the CEO.
While I'd rather have all of my vacation, I've been enjoying the past few days, which have been a lot less stressful. The CEO, unable to enjoy himself in Vietnam, remains in touch with my boss. As usual, I'm not completely sure what, exactly, the CEO wants from us, so I'm acting on what little information the boss can provide. The CEO definitely wants a booklet done for one of his larger seminars, but I still have no real clue how many PPTs I'm supposed to do, and on what subject. The boss is sure I need to do at least one PPT, but one more, two more, or even three more may be possible. And remember: each PPT needs a set of lecture notes.
PPT: 8 hours' work.
Lecture notes: 4 hours' work.
Workbook material: looks to be at least 16 hours' work thus far—and we ain't done. On top of that, there has to be a set of lecture notes, too. Another 4 hours.
See why I'm coming in on Monday?
Believe it or not, this nevertheless feels a lot less demanding than what I'd been going through the past couple of weeks. No more 14-hour days, at least. And the materials we're making aren't really due until the end of the month. Maybe, by then, we'll have a clear idea as to which materials the CEO needs. Frankly, I'm already looking forward to the day we stop making presentation materials and start making book-related content.
I might watch and review a movie or two over the weekend. Expect a "Chef's Table: BBQ" review up sometime soon, too.
Good luck Kevin. At the moment, it doesn't sound like the "new" job is any less stressful or has less BS than the "old" job. Hopefully this will change!

I'm no longer working 12-14-hour days, and I also have somewhat more time to complete assignments, so it's not quite the mad rush it had been over the previous two weeks. We'll see, over the coming weeks and months, whether the job is any less insane overall. If it turns out to be yet more madness, I'll walk. Currently, I'm enjoying my vacation, which is certainly something given all that had gone before.
