100 Below: Volume 47 (Lunar New Year edition)

"When I fart," said Magpie, "You can hear the sound even if you're underwater!"

"Nonsense!" laughed Rabbit. "When I fart, I shake the leaves off all the trees in the valley!"

"Weaklings!" growled Tiger. "When I fart, another tiger comes out!"

Magpie and Rabbit stared solemnly at Tiger. Then all three of them burst out laughing. As they rolled on the ground, Tiger farted.

Then there were two tigers.

Magpie and Rabbit stopped laughing.

The two tigers exchanged a knowing look, lips curling back to expose gleaming fangs.

"One for each of us!" they roared.

And the chase was on.

__________

I trimmed down this story from 2011 to make it fit the 100-word parameter. Frankly, I don't even remember writing the story. That's what happens as you get older, and it's one of the reasons why I blog—so I can remember my life and how I lived it. Even if a post has nothing to do with my biography, it still says something about the things I was thinking at the time.

I'll take this opportunity to wish all my readers a Happy Lunar New Year, the Year of the Rabbit. My boss tells me it's specifically the Year of the Black Rabbit, which only makes me think of Richard Adams's epic adventure Watership Down, in which the rabbits speak fearfully of the Black Rabbit of Inlé, who represents death. May this not be an Inlé year. It'd be nice to have a break for once. I don't want to silflay any more hraka.
