I wrote to my buddy in France about the riots, but...

I wrote to my buddy Dominique about the riots consuming France, but he sent me a note to say he's off in Corsica, attending the wedding of a friend who had lived in companionship with his woman for 30 years ("après 30 ans de vie commune," Dom wrote) and finally decided to tie the knot with her. Dom said that his email (which came with an envy-inducing pic of him and his wife looking calm, fit, and happy in Corsica) would be only the first part; I assume he'll write about the riots once he's back in Le Vanneau-Irleau. A bit of trivia: a lot of French people like vacationing in Corsica, where people speak French, Italian, and Corsu.

Here's Dom and his wife Véronique:

One thing we can deduce from the above happy photo is that it's not all of France that's going down in flames. Tim Pool made a similar point when he was in Egypt during the so-called Arab Spring: it was only a few blocks' worth of chaos and flames and demonstrations: most of Cairo was peaceful. This is something we need to remember when evaluating problems like the current riots spreading through Europe. Yes, there's millions of dollars in property damage being done, but at the same time, the problem hasn't engulfed the entirety of France. So Dom, who lives in a peaceful and not exactly racially diverse part of the Hexagon, is most likely untouched by anything that's happening now. And Corsica, a French territory where the above photo was taken, is an entire universe away.
