understand the psychology

The notion of a "blue wave" swamping Congress this coming November continues to erode as the left insists on shooting itself repeatedly in the foot. The Brett Kavanaugh affair is only the latest example of the left's succumbing to the Trump Effect: try to strike a blow, and the blow rebounds right back against you. In this particular case, in what some are calling "the Kavanaugh Effect" as a subset of the Trump Effect, the Democrats' desperate attempts to bring Kavanaugh down are merely solidifying Republican support for both Kavanaugh and for Republican office-holders whose seats are up for a vote come November.

Democrats and leftists aren't helping themselves with their hypocrisy. They mocked Kavanaugh when he became "partisan" and emotional during his statements to the Senate Judiciary Committee, but, as Ann Althouse quotes:

"To think, just a few short weeks ago, we were getting lectured about how unfair, sexist, and racist it was to judge a woman for expressing anger during a tennis game."

That was regarding Serena Williams, the tennis player who threw a fit while losing to the much younger Naomi Osaka. How dare anyone criticize Williams for being unsportsmanlike! She has as much right to emote as anyone else, yes? Well... yes, but when Brett Kavanaugh emotes after his entire life has been dragged through the mud (I love the hilariously unironic battle cries of "patriarchy!" coming from some corners, even as a man is being publicly torn to shreds), he's not given the same pass.

The right is watching and noting these inconsistencies, and these inconsistencies are beginning to curdle certain stomachs. Note these two trends:

1. Women, most of whom are conservative but many of whom are not, are rallying around Kavanaugh (and other men) and moving decidedly away from liberal/Democrat causes. Toxic feminism is one reason for this.

2. Blacks are starting to abandon the Democrat way. Perhaps you've seen the year-on-year comparison: on October 5, 2017, a Rasmussen poll showed black approval of Trump at 23%. This year, same date, it's now at 35%. That's a significant rise. Agitators like Kanye West might be one reason for the gain, but there are other factors at play as well.

Women and blacks are two of the Democrats' core demographics, and if there's this sort of erosion happening at the core, we can expect to see increasing desperation, manifesting itself as ever more extravagant moves on the political chessboard, in the near future—especially as November approaches.

For nearly two years, half the country, with its naive reliance on sources like the Huffington Post, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and the major national news networks and newspapers, has been fed a load of horseshit. Although this horseshit is aimed at undermining Trump and his agenda, it has been mostly unsuccessful in doing so. This is because the propaganda spewed by these outlets so thoroughly obscures the psychological realities of the situation that the left is effectively unable to respond to reality. You can't fight an enemy whose psychology you don't, can't, or won't understand.

The result is that the Kavanaugh affair has welded the Trump and NeverTrump forces (except for a few sad outliers who don’t matter) into a solid force. And it’s simultaneously galvanized GOP voters around the country, closing the “enthusiasm gap,” as the normals become more militant. Plus, it seems that minority voters aren’t as excited about empowering neurotic upper-class white feminists as you might [expect] — well, actually, I guess they’re just about exactly as excited about empowering neurotic upper-class white feminists as you might expect, but it seems Dems didn’t give that much thought. So Kavanaugh was, in fact, the perfect pick to trigger this reaction.

While I still find Donald Trump himself to be a thoroughly unsavory character, I have to admire the way in which his accession to the Oval Office has outed so many hypocritical and corrupt elements in Washington and beyond—from politicians to the media. The swamp hasn't been drained, but it's been exposed, and it's colossal. There has been a spectacular amount of duplicity, hypocrisy, and outright stupidity on display, and none of these folks realize the degree to which they're being played. Does this make Donald Trump an all-seeing, all-wise, omnipotent master of the universe? No. In fact, I think of lot of his troubles originate with him. But enemies of Trump don't help themselves by constantly underestimating their opponent while also living in denial of the psychological reality of the situation. If they want to defeat Trump in 2020, liberals will need to get a proper handle on how Trump thinks and operates; otherwise, Trump is assured a second term. That's not what's going to happen, though: Democrats are already threatening to take action if Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed as a Supreme Court justice. They simply can't see that, by making such threats, by continuing to kick and scream as they've done for two years, they merely guarantee Donald Trump another four years in the White House. Dems: open your eyes and learn to play the game. And it gets worse: when leftie Ruth Bader Ginsburg leaves the SCOTUS bench through death or retirement, Trump will continue to stack the Supreme Court with right-leaning judges—a move that will have ramifications for years. Democrats are well aware of this, so they know that, with the next nomination to the Supreme Court, the stakes will be far, far higher.

How loudly will they kick and scream then?

ADDENDUM: and this sort of insanity doesn't help the left, either:

ADDENDUM 2: more Trump Effect: "creepy porn lawyer" Michael Avenatti, who became famous as a rep for porn star Stormy Daniels (the lady who had sex with Trump, spanked Trump with a rolled-up magazine years ago, and recently commented on Trump's mushroom-shaped dick), has now become "radioactive" to liberals, who blame him for Brett Kavanaugh's impending confirmation. Avenatti recently touted another client, Julie Swetnick, who supposedly had damning testimony to offer against Brett Kavanaugh. Swetnick's claims proved to be as substance-free as Dr. Christine Ford's claims, and now Avenatti is in the process of becoming a pariah to the left. The left always, always eats its own.

ADDENDUM 3: Mitch McConnell: “I want to thank the mob, because they’ve done the one thing we were having trouble doing, which was energizing our base.” Oh, that hurts. But it's going to happen again soon, once the liberals lose their shit over Kavanaugh's confirmation because they can't—fucking—learn—their—lesson. I'm not sure I even want the left to learn its lesson anymore. Let it destroy itself. No need for a civil war if that happens.

ADDENDUM 4: as of 5:30 a.m., Seoul time, Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed as the ninth justice of the US Supreme Court. Let the liberal shitstorm begin: it's going to backfire like everything else.

  1. President Mom Jeans left this comment over at Althouse, and I can't stop grinning.

Let 40 years of conservative hellfire reign down upon the libtards from the Supreme Court. You have turned a moderate squish hopefully into a firebreathing originalist avenger.

I picture the first day on the job, Kavanaugh walking into Justice Thomas's chambers, and Thomas pouring him a drink. They toast, and Kavanaugh quietly but firmly says "Let's burn this motherfucker to the ground."

    Thomas grins.

  2. Good stuff and well said as usual Kevin. It is a great day for our nation. I think the Democrats are a lost cause. They have no choice but to pander to their extreme left element which drives the traditional working class base into Republican hands.

Hopefully Trump doesn't fuck this up. I am pleasantly surprised with his success thus far (and he is certainly still a far better choice than Hillary). Still not sure if he is more lucky than good, but you can't argue with the results.

  3. There is a theory going 'round that Michael Avenatti is actually in the pay of The Donald.

    Kayfabe all the way, baby!
