whew—big shopping done

I went to Jongno's Saeun Sangga, a large electric/electronics market north of the river, and as soon as I stepped out of the cab, I immediately found a light-bulb shop that had exactly what I needed. I just called the electrician up to my room; he came up after a few minutes, installed the new light, and just like that, I'm back to being in the twenty-first century. Woo-hoo!

While I was up north, I walked over to Insa-dong to go shopping for trinkets to give to Dominique's family. Spent a few hundred bucks, but I think it'll be well worth it. Got a mixture of art and petits bonbons—mostly snacks and things of symbolic value, since I honestly have no clue what Dom's kids might like. Right now, the dilemma facing me is: can I stuff all these goods into my small backpack, or am I going to have to take the big backpack? I'd rather not take the big backpack because that will mean having to check a bag in, which in turn will mean having to wait at the baggage claim for my backpack—precious minutes that could be spent rushing to the Metro to reach la Gare de Montparnasse, a station I need to reach in less than two hours once I land. (Which reminds me: if my plane is late in landing, that's also going to add pressure to my schedule.) Not to worry: I'll figure this out soon.

In the meantime, I might just go have a nice dump in my lighted bathroom. Ha!
