I probably won't be seeing "Top Gun: Maverick" until it's out on home video, but one thing I've noted is the number of critics who have uncharitably compared Jennifer Connelly—who plays Tom Cruise's love interest in the new film—to Kelly McGillis, who played Tom Cruise's love interest in the original 80s-era "Top Gun." Critic after critic notes has Connelly has "aged well," implying that McGillis hasn't, but something smelled a little funny about that claim, so I finally looked up Connelly and McGillis's respective ages. As of this writing, Connelly is 51, making her slightly younger than me, and she definitely looks good for 51. But Kelly McGillis is 65, so comparing her and Connelly is unfair at best and plain nasty at worst. So, guys: leave Kelly alone. How do you think you're going to look when you're 65?
