I finally charted out the Jeju Olle trail for my walk this fall. There's little use trying talk about the exact number of segments because (1) there are a lot of "dash 1" segments that branch off from the main path (e.g., Course 10 [main], Course 10-1 [spur]), and (2) some parts of the trail, as mapped out on my app, don't quite make sense, so I had to improvise. For argument's sake, let's say there are approximately 20-22 segments total. Now, because I don't plan to do the "dash 1" courses, the distance I'll actually be walking is even less than the advertised 425 km. My distance will only be about 341 kilometers. I looked at where I could squish some segments together, and after fusing some of the segments (always the easier ones), I was able to get the walk down to 17 days, assuming no rest breaks.
Here's a bird's-eye view of the overall route (from my Jeju Olle app):
You can see a few "dash 1" courses in there: 1-1, 7-1, 10-1, 14-1 (not all are visible on the map). |
Here's the route as I plotted it out:
The segments are listed in the left column. The route from where to where is in the next column. Two segments are highlighted because they're not actually on the app: as mentioned above, I had to do some improvising to connect the dots. The third column is the distance for each segment. The next column over is the difficulty level, with green meaning "easy," yellow meaning "regular," and red meaning "difficult." The question marks mean I don't know the difficulty level, but I assume easy or regular. The column after that shows which segments I can fuse together and do in a single day. The last column shows the number of days this will take me, with fused segments counting as a single day (note Days 1, 4, 10, and 17). Total distance for the entire trail is listed at the bottom. This trail is going to be so short that I'll probably do another route once I get back from Jeju: most likely the Andong Dam route that I'd been planning right before my stroke last year.
Looking forward to seeing this one.
