two from Doug in Exile

A YouTuber going by Doug in Exile popped up in my feed, probably another gift of the all-knowing algorithm. Doug does very short videos, and he gets right to the point. His Abraham Lincoln beard sets him off as a character. Here are two recent vids from him, older one first:

Yet another tax-return nothingburger. For a dirty businessman, Trump seems to come out clean as a whistle. It's enough to make me question my assumptions that he must be dirty in principle, just because he's a businessman-turned-politician. This is the howmanieth time the Democrats have dug through Trump's private records in search of real dirt? Talking heads are darkly noting that this is going to backfire on the Democrats once the House changes hands this month. Pretty soon, Democrat tax returns will be seeing the light of day. Some may be clean, but as this article notes, people do wonder how someone supposedly on a Congressman's salary can end up so filthy rich. The worm is about to turn.

  1. Yep, you nailed it--Trump was rich when he became a politician, and these other scoundrels become rich after being elected. Selling out the interests of the American people seems to be quite lucrative.

It's a shame that our tax laws are so convoluted that you can't immediately discern if someone isn't playing by the rules. I've long been an advocate of having a simple flat-rate tax system: EVERYBODY pays their share (10% seems fair) with no deductions or exemptions. You make a hundred dollars or a million; the same percentage goes to Uncle Sam.
