Greg Doucette, Canadian champion of the CICO (calories in, calories out) model:
Dr. Jason Fung (author of The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code), champion of CIM (the carbohydrate-insulin model):
As I mentioned in another post, I think these two models work best in concert with each other, not as competitors. In Greg Doucette's video, for example, he does acknowledge the need to watch macros, although not to the extent that keto demands. Jason Fung recognizes that CICO is a thing, but that it's far from the whole truth: hormonal balance plays a huge role in how the food you take in gets either stored or metabolized. For him, thinking purely in terms of CICO is too simplistic, and saying "a calorie is a calorie" is wrong.
I don't think either guy is totally right or totally wrong, frankly, although I find Fung's presentational style far less obnoxious than Doucette's ranty, high-pitched manner. Anyway, if you're on your own weight-loss journey, take what you can from both of these guys and proceed from there. As my buddy Mike says, carry on.
