the coming Egypt-Ethiopia conflict

My buddy Mike was the first to alert me to the brewing conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia, all because of a dam built by Ethiopia that has now gone into operation. The Ethiopian dam will significantly reduce Egypt's water supply while it bolsters Ethiopia's economy, and Egypt is having none of it. There have apparently been negotiations and attempts at negotiations for years, but Ethiopia simply kept building its dam, and now the thing is on line, and Egypt is moving toward war.

Dr. John Pepple now writes a blog post that also comments on the Egypt-Ethiopia tension. He says that the US government is mulling sanctions against Ethiopia, but Dr. Pepple openly wonders why we'd involve ourselves at all in this conflict. Pepple writes:

The article says that our government is considering sanctions on Ethiopia, but I have to wonder why we are involved at all. This squabble is for others to solve. In particular and in order of importance, it is the business of (1) the African Union, (2) the United Nations, and (3) the European Union, not because they are involved in it at all, but because they are in fact nearer to it than we are. We should just stay out.

There you have it: another opinion on a coming conflict. 2020 continues to be awful.
