Freckles are associated with Irish people, but in Korea, freckles are considered ugly. Even the term for freckles, jugeunggae/주근깨, sounds as if you're saying "dead dog" (죽은 개/jugeun gae). I've got freckles. They're not as prominent as they used to be, but they're a genetic marker of my partially Irish heritage. Of course, on this day of days, we're all Irish, so hoist a pint if that's you're thing and think kind thoughts of the Emerald Isle, which today is everyone's hearth and home. Éirinn go Brách!
