here's some policy & priorities for you

How much of this can Vivek realistically do as chief executive? I don't know, but Biden showed us all the power of executive orders. A two-edged sword, to be sure, but usable.

Except for the carbon emissions plan, the other ideas seem to be pointless and counterproductive. I mean, federal unions are pretty much powerless (i.e., they can't negotiate for wages or other benefits that impact the budget), but they do some good in looking out for employees and giving a voice to their interests. A unilateral 50% reduction of workers in every agency would be disastrous. Yeah, there is some fat to be trimmed, but half the workforce is ridiculous. Change the mission first and get rid of useless entities like the Department of Education if you want a smaller government.

I think a nice, thorough tree-trimming is in order. Unions, federal or not, expect their members all to vote Democrat, so I wouldn't underestimate unions' influence. A 50% reduction is a good start, and I wouldn't restrict myself only to unions at the federal level. I do agree with you, though, about getting rid of whole agencies like the Department of Education, the Environmental Protection Agency, etc.

but half the workforce is ridiculous

Musk is running Twitter at its original efficiency with only 25% of the original workforce. I'd contend that a 50% cut isn't enough. The government is a 10-pound housecat in a 50-pound housecat's body.

I guess it depends on the mission, but I remember dealing with immigration with Jee Yeun, and it was insane how long everything took. I recall showing up for a morning appointment, waiting into the afternoon, then being told to come back tomorrow as all the agents were booked.

Anyway, I do agree that the overstaffing of the bureaucracy could be eliminated, but the best way for that is to reduce or eliminate what the agency is supposed to be doing. Leave it to the States!
