What happens when a martial art becomes so stylized, so rarefied, that it no longer has any battlefield application and looks like some weird, pervy game of "let's touch just our tips"? Would samurai of the past, those with battlefield experience, have appreciated the nonsense I just watched? (It's 3:46 long; watch at 2X speed to waste as little time as possible. The person who uploaded the video said s/he does not grant permission to reproduce the video anywhere else—probably out of shame—so instead of embedding the video, I'm only leaving a link. Oh, and on YouTube, the comments feature for the video has been turned off. Telling.) Granted, kendo is useless on today's battlefields, but still.
