Kofi wakes up (too little, too late)

Kofi Annan takes a look around and notices that there's been an "alarming" upsurge in antisemitism lately.

Gee, ya' think?

So Mr. Annan hosted the first-ever (!!) UN seminar dedicated to antisemitism. But all is not well in Mudville, and the UN gets its ass deservedly kicked-- to cheers, to less.

From the article:

The United Nations came in for heavy criticism, especially from Anne Bayefsky, a professor and fellow at the Hudson Institute think tank, who said Israel was demonized on a regular basis while Arab nations got away with redrawing the map of the Middle East,

To cheers from the audience, she castigated the United Nations as well as Annan for an "inability to confront the corruption of its agenda."

In our next episode: will Mr. Annan take proper action before a certain UN-related scandal strips him of his powers?

Stay tuned.

And keep in mind that this is the selfsame UN to which John Kerry would immediately turn for help in Iraq-- as if they have more moral authority than any other political entity. What a fucking joke. Personally, I'm becoming convinced that the patchier, messier process of coalition-building outside the purview of transnational bodies is the way to go. This is a complete about-face for me. If you'd asked me two years ago, I'd have told you I liked the idea of world government, transnationalism, etc. Ever since March 2003, after watching the politics play out across the world, I'm a changed hominid.
