solving the "shotgun" problem

The shotgun pattern on my mattress cover was getting worse.  It started out as a small cluster of tiny holes—easy enough to ignore.  But as time went on, the holes grew... and grew.  I never understood what had caused the holes.  Callused feet?  Impossible.  Overgrown toenails?  Possible but unlikely, given how often I clip my toenails.  Ghosts firing ghostly shotguns into my mattress?  That theory's as good as the previous ones.  Anyway, here's what the shotgun pattern of mattress-cover holes looks like:

And here's a closer look, utilizing the "food porn" angle that I use when proudly photographing a dish I've just made:

I went to the local Yangjae eMart and got myself a replacement mattress cover:

And here's the new cover, now in place and fulfilling its dharma:

  1. Off-topic, but do you ever right that fine-looking bicycle?

  2. Not for months. The bike is just sitting here, collecting dust. The tires are both deflated now.

  3. Were those holes about where your butt is on the bed? They look like regular wear holes. That is the area that gets the most friction as you turn in the night. I've noticed similar patterns on older sheets.

  4. M,

ARE YOU SAYING I'VE BEEN SHOWING THE WORLD MY BUTTHOLES?

    I'm so embarrassed.

For what it's worth, the holes were at right about knee level. Weird.
