Happy August!
That walk last night must've taken more out of me than I'd originally thought: I overslept through my phone's alarm and was an hour late to work today. It was one of those horrible moments, too, in which your eyes pop open and you immediately realize you've overslept, and your brain goes into overdrive, somehow calculating elapsed time and letting you know it's almost goddamn 2 p.m. Sure enough, you grab your phone and read the time: 1:50 p.m. Fuck.
I did my ablutions and rushed to the office. The big boss wasn't there (he'd had an hours-long meeting with our CEO last night, so I imagine he felt wiped out, too), but my Korean coworker was. I sheepishly greeted him and explained I'd gone walking in last night's horrible heat and humidity (it's more the humidity that's a killer, making you huff and puff as you push your way through air as thick as syrup). My coworker's not the judgmental type, so he didn't moralize or otherwise castigate me.
At least I'm here, though: I made it in alive. And while I wait for new material from my boss, I don't have much to do at the moment aside from adding pronunciations to two vocabulary-related documents that will become the content for two new textbooks.
Onward!
Well, if being an hour late for work is the worst thing that happens to you this month, you will be blessed indeed!
ReplyDeleteOne of the benefits that come with retirement is not setting alarms (well, except when something is in the oven), but I'm such a light sleeper these days that even the wind outside wakes me up at night. And the neighbor's damn dog.
First-world problems, right?
