I started hearing about this a few weeks ago, and I'd like to know more, frankly. I knew Michel Foucault was a flaming homosexual, and I never held that against him, but he apparently was an advocate for, shall we say, underage lovin'.
One disturbing association, often made by people on the right, is that between homosexuals and pedophilia. I get defensive about that because I have a gay brother who is a professional cellist with a full slate of kids whom he tutors. And I know for a fact that Sean would never lay a finger on any of his charges, so it infuriates me to think there are people out there who, if they knew Sean were gay, would immediately conclude he's a pedophile. I'd take a baseball bat to the teeth of every asshole who thought that way if I could. The fact is that there is no necessary connection between homosexuals and pedophilia, but when prominent gay folks like Michel Foucault turn out to be, as they say these days, minor-attracted, this doesn't help my argument that gay folks aren't necessarily pedos.
And yet, it's somehow not surprising that PoMo and pedo go together.
Watching that video reminded me of some things I had not thought about in decades. As a young teenager (13 or 14), I would frequently hitchhike. On at least two occasions, the male driver attempted to coerce me into having sex with him. I politely declined and exited the vehicle at my first opportunity. Weird to remember those incidents now.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this whole push to make sex with children acceptable (minor attracted my ass!) is scary. As a parent, I would be outraged that my kids were considered fair game. Although I've noticed here that parents dress even the pre-pubescent children in attire that does not seem age appropriate.
Here's hoping that, as a society, we regain our focus on letting kids be kids.
Jesus Christ, man! That's fucked up. I've never had anything like that happen to me; I consider myself lucky.
ReplyDeleteI agree—the push for pedophilia is scary.
