unusually high stats (but not today)

Over the past few days, I've had some unusually high blog traffic, but not today. Today is shaping up to be a more normal day; I doubt I'll break 1000. But for the past few days, I've been in the low 2000s for unique visits, which is not normal for this blog. These sorts of days seem to be occurring with greater frequency, however; I'd like to think this means I'm poised on the brink of some sort of popularity breakthrough, but knowing my luck, that's not going to happen. So I'll just keep plugging away in relative obscurity, writing for the benefit of my five dedicated readers. Lurkers and occasional visitors can come and go as they please.

  1. It's an interesting question--who do you blog for, yourself or your readers? I get nowhere near the traffic you do (nor do I deserve to) and I try not to care. I'm basically just sharing my diary these days; that over a hundred people in this world find that interesting enough to read is pretty surprising. I always joke that it is to feel better about themselves in a "glad I'm not that guy" kinda way.

Even so, I feel an obligation to post something every day, however meaningless, so as not to disappoint those few brave souls. And of course, the feedback from the occasional comments is often insightful and encouraging.

So, I guess to answer my own question--I blog for myself AND my readers.

  2. For people like me, who know little to nothing about the Philippines, your blog provides a lot of good content. It's not exactly an insider's perspective, but in a sense, it's a good thing to see the Philippines at a remove. I've learned a lot, and continue to learn, thanks to your blogging efforts, and while your confessional nature on the blog shows that, sometimes, your life can be a shit-show, you describe at least as many ups as you do downs. So it's reassuring to know that life in the PI is pretty much like life anywhere else. Keep on doing what you're doing, and if there's an audience for it, great. And if not, your blog at least serves as a way to entertain a few readers while you get things off your chest. And if nothing else, your blog serves as a peek into the life of one foreign man, retired in Southeast Asia.

  3. Thanks, as always, for your support. I think that's an encouraging assessment and a nice complementary description of what I do at LTG. I'll keep on keepin' on!
