lest we forget

In the midst of all the COVID-19 panic, let us not forget that today is March 1st, Samil-jeol, here in South Korea. Today, we remember the March 1st independence movement, in which a number of brave, outspoken Koreans publicly railed against the Japanese occupation. Alas, Japan's occupation didn't end until the end of World War II, when Korea's liberation was realized as a line item in Japan's capitulation to the Allied powers, but Koreans did struggle against the Japanese from 1910 to 1945, much in the manner of the French Resistance.

A mindful Samil-jeol to you, then! Read more about the day here.
