There's something a little bit creepy about this guy (the over-long neck? the hard-to-place accent?), but he has some of the best keto versions of real bread and pasta out there, so I thought I'd finally feature his videos here:
I admit I was really annoyed by the term "Banting Boss" because I had no idea what a "Banting" was. Turns out it's the name of a certain William Banting, a formerly obese undertaker and coffin-maker from roughly the 1800s who was associated with low-carb diets. I thought it was some sort of British slang, like "scranning" (which I learned over a month ago when my friend Neil pointed me to some videos of a guy going around Britain and cheerfully rating various "takeaways," as they say across the pond... we Yanks say "take-out").
Anyway, the above bread and pasta videos look doable, plausible, and potentially delicious. The guy himself might need to work on his presentation skills, but the content of the videos is enough to make me perk up and pay attention. So after having watched many, many videos about keto bread and pasta, I've concluded that his are the best, and its his bun recipe I'll be using to make hamburger and hot-dog buns for the upcoming luncheon.
For comparison's sake, here's a video about keto burger buns that's much simpler, but also probably much less tasty:
I just read your last 100 posts or so in my RSS reader and was totally unaware of what had been happening the past few months. Sorry about all of the shit that happened during that time, but it sounds like you are well on your way to improving yourself after that scare. The keto recipes and sugar alternatives are something I also have an interest in, so I'll pay closer attention to your posts now. Take care, yo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in, at least! I have friends who never even bother to read the blog, so they're always asking me how things are going without ever bothering to check.
ReplyDeleteJustin,
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned an interest in keto food. I bet Thai food is already pretty darn keto if you leave out the carbs. Maybe you can look for keto substitutes for pasta. I've been hearing about konjac noodles, but the reviews I'm hearing are not that great: both "miracle noodles" and "miracle rice" apparently smell horrible right out of the package, and when you cook them, the smell goes away, but they taste like nothing. There have to be better substitutes out there.
I don't think I've ever had a keto bun--they look delicious. Will your co-workers notice a difference in taste? Are you going to forewarn them or wait for a reaction?
ReplyDeleteThe coworkers already know I'm going to cook keto buns. They also know I'll test them on myself first, and if the buns don't work out, I'll serve regular buns.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Thai food - I stopped eating rice and noodles at night and so yes, it's pretty keto. The problem is staying away from curries and other dishes that require rice. We've only been cooking at home for over a year now, so it's easier, but... I love me some curry!
