The US shows its commitment to Taiwan's defense by sending over a tripwire force. This ensures that, should China attack Taiwan, the deaths of American troops will guarantee American involvement in any ensuing war. It's the reason for the presence of US military forces in South Korea. Chris Chappell notes, in the following video, that the US might be committed to Taiwan's defense, but we still can't bring ourselves to say openly that Taiwan is its own country. Such cowardice on our part. The One China policy is dead.
