Styx on "immigrant exceptionalism":
Styx on why he sees Trump as likely to be reelected:
Despite all the frivolous legal slings and arrows, Trump is polling more popularly than ever (if you trust polls at all anymore, and I don't blame you if you don't); he's way ahead of any other GOP contender for the nomination next year (oh, the irony of linking to FiveThirtyEight.com). At this point, it's going to be Trump or nobody.
The only question is whether ol' Uncle Donald will have the wisdom to pick a better VP this time around. I think Kari Lake is perfect for the spot; I've argued before that she's a fucking pit bull and, like Trump, a media personality who knows how the scumbags think (I would have loved to see Kari Lake dismantle that idiot Kaitlan Collins* in a CNN town hall—ultimate catfight!). My boss thinks Ron DeSantis would make a good VP, and I don't exactly disagree, but with the growing rift between Trump and DeSantis, I'm not so sure. DeSantis could be persuaded to come around, as happened with Ted Cruz, who went from "Lyin' Ted" to a Trump partisan. As things stand, DeSantis hasn't even said he'll be running, but Trump's silly "Ron DeSanctimonious" sniping—which only makes him look petty and lame—suggests that he's afraid of DeSantis, at least a little bit. People have tried to call DeSantis "Trump Lite" or, in the words of Sebastian Gorka, "Trump's Mini Me," but I think the two are distinct enough in their views for that not to be the case. Maybe I'll write a post that goes into their differences later: there are quite a few. Meanwhile, Trump is undeniably riding high right now, but it's a long way to the 2024 election, and we're not even halfway through 2023 yet.
I'm expecting Trump to get a second term, quietly form death squads, and drain the swamp the Chicago way, putting Arkancide to shame (and eliminating it in the process).
