Lunch was a hit, despite the bringing-together of two disparate foods—quiche and pulled-pork sliders. To remind you, though, these foods were brought together because the boss's wife had proclaimed her love for my quiche last year, and because my American coworker's wife had said she loved my pulled pork. Does my pulled pork hold a candle to the real thing? Not a chance, and I didn't even try to add any burned bits this time around (you can broil 1/4 of your pork and mix it in with the rest to get that cronch). My Korean coworker actually ate his whole slice of quiche this time; I talked with him a bit about how and why tough crusts happen.
I'm feeling much better today; I'll probably be walking a bit over the weekend, but I'll also be coming into the office both Saturday and Sunday, given that I took off this past Wednesday because of fasting fatigue. Come Monday, I'll be back to an aggressive carnivore agenda, and based on my docs' advice, I suppose I'll be forcing a lot more water into myself to flush out my kidneys. I think the key to getting past the 101-kg floor is to increase exercise and (as one doc suggested) to keep whittling away at portion sizes. While I'm loath to do the latter thing for satiety reasons, I think I have to resign myself to a life of constant low-grade deprivation. With a body like mine which, calorie-hoarder that it is, seizes every chance to exercise Murphy's Law, I have little choice but to be merciless. I don't want to go back to Newcastle, but I'm going to have to get close to that level of privation. I hate to set a caloric goal like 1,200 calories a day, but that may be coming. God help me.
