Nebula and Mantis talk Scottish and French slang

The French language, just like any other language, never stops evolving. I haven't been truly plugged into French culture since about, oh, 1990, when I was finishing up my time in Fribourg, Switzerland, and occasionally visiting my French host family for occasions like Christmas. So most of my idiomatic knowledge of French is old and rusty, and quite frankly, I'm not sure how much I understand when young people talk to each other in their own idiom these days. There were times, in 2018, when I felt lost while visiting my French family and listening to the young'uns banter while at table.

So watching the video below was a good way for me to learn a couple new French expressions: Pom Klementieff, of Korean-Russian ethnicity but a French citizen and a fluent English speaker, challenges Scotswoman Karen Gillan to guess the meanings of some French expressions, and Gillan does the same right back with some Scottish idioms. The result is pretty hilarious as they go back and forth, and now I know French expressions like ça daube ("it stinks") and canon ("hot stuff") and thon (misspelled on the screen as tohn for some reason; it means "ugly"). Gillan offers the Scottish idiom Shut yer puss, which was easy enough to guess ("Shut your mouth"), and proper pished obviously meant "drunk," but I really liked nee danger (pronounce the nee like "neigh"), which means "no chance" [of something happening]: There's nee danger that ye'll get this. In the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Gillan plays prickly "daughter of Thanos" Nebula while Klementieff plays Mantis, a character introduced in the second movie.
