Ron DeSantis is a fine governor for Florida, but the message increasingly seems to be: Stay in Florida. The man just isn't cut out for the national stage. Not yet.
Oh Gosh. DeSantis Crowd Dries Up Like a Trickle…
Ron DeSantis is an EXCELLENT GOVERNOR!
[But] this is just embarrassing.
[Whoever] he hired to run his campaign should be ashamed.
The governor’s crowds are drying up like a trickle.
Ron’s momentum is like a leaky faucet.

It hurts to look at this. |
Ouch, baby. Very ouch.
Any number of reasons can be cited for DeSantis's failure to drum up support. Some might see DeSantis as being disloyal to Trump, who had helped DeSantis win his first term as Florida's governor. Some point to DeSantis's so-far lukewarm defense of Trump as Trump receives indictment after indictment (cf. Vivek Ramaswamy's passionate defense of Trump in every interview he sits at, and then there's Kari Lake, who has been a pro-Trump firebrand). Others, like Tim Pool and Joe Rogan, talk about DeSantis's charisma deficit (which I personally don't see: I find DeSantis to be charming, earnest, quick-witted, and knowledgeable on most issues). Whatever might be happening, things just aren't clicking for the man, and I'm beginning to think he might want to pull out while he can still do so with honor. It's commonplace to say (as I've said myself several times) that "we've still got a long way to November 2024," but DeSantis's campaign really does seem to be flaming out rather early in the game. I would hate to see this drag on to the point where the conservative public actively turns against the man. Right now, even the people who think DeSantis isn't the right choice for president in this election cycle still like him overall, and his record in Florida speaks for itself. All of that becomes endangered if DeSantis "lives long enough to see himself become the villain."
Ron, I think you're great, but consider shifting your sights to 2028.
